LECTURE SERIES: The Wonder of Chaco Canyon and the Greater Chaco Landscape

Join us for the first installment of our 2026 CCC Landscapes & Legacies Lecture Series as we welcome Paul Reed, Preservation Archaeologist with Archaeology Southwest.
In “The Wonder of Chaco Canyon and the Greater Chaco Landscape,” Paul will take us on a journey into one of the most awe-inspiring regions in the world. Chaco Canyon was a dramatic cultural center for the ancestors of today’s Indigenous peoples, whose influence stretched across the Four Corners region.
Many sacred places, ceremonial traditions, and lasting aspects of Pueblo culture emerged from this powerful landscape, and today, the Greater Chaco Region continues to face serious threats from oil and gas development.
Join us to reflect on what makes this place so special, why it continues to matter, and how its protection is guided by voices of those with deep ancestral and cultural connections to this place.
Paul Reed is a Preservation Archaeologist with Archaeology Southwest and has been working in the Chaco region for over 20 years. He is the editor of “Chaco’s Northern Prodigies” and a leading advocate for cultural resource protection in the Greater Chaco Landscape.
