Help us provide virtual access to the priceless artifacts held in the museum collections of Chaco Culture Historical Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument. We are embarking on a fundraising campaign to raise $5000 for this exciting project.
The Chaco and Aztec Ruins Museum Collections preserve over 1 million artifacts that represent the history of life at Chaco and Aztec Ruins, most of these are not on public display. The Conservancy hopes, with this GivingTuesday campaign, to professionally photograph some of these items for virtual public display.
This project will showcase the wide variety of items found within the collections including ceramics, bone, wood, and perishable artifacts such as sandals and basketry. Once the photography is completed, the resulting photos will be available for viewing on the Chaco Culture Conservancy website for all to enjoy.
These photographs will provide additional benefits to the museum collection. They can be used by museum staff to monitor for potential deterioration or damage to the object’s condition. Having high-quality photographs available ensures that artifacts won’t need to be handled repeatedly by researchers to photograph for each individual publication. This will protect the collection and make museum collection operations more efficient.
The photographs will be taken in RAW format and accompanied by a standard catalog number plate and metric color correction scale. Deliverables will be in .TIF format to ensure that the photographs can be used in the widest variety of publication and web design software packages possible.
Because the Park already has a high-quality backdrop and lighting set available for the photographer, the artifacts can be photographed in the museum facility and will not have to be removed from the secure location.
Your support would ensure the key artifacts are photographed in the most professional and safe way to ensure these items can be shared with the public, researchers and used for virtual exhibitions in the future.
